In Harry Otto’s work, play and structure come together. Chance is given the freedom to emerge, while at the same time being guided by a deep understanding of photographic principles.

After graduating from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, Harry began his career as a professional photographer in 1996. His creative and visual talent, combined with a results-driven approach and a strong ability to improvise, make him a versatile image maker.

In his personal work, Harry explores the power of the unexpected. His photography is a search for the unpredictable elements that give the medium its unique magic. Even when he deliberately introduces a narrative element into his images, experimentation remains an essential part of his creative process. Chance is allowed to play its role, creating new images and unexpected meanings.

Alongside his personal artistic work, Harry has extensive experience giving private photography Lessons, Workshops and Photography Tours in Leiden and Rotterdam. He is also a photography lecturer at the LAK.

As a teacher, he creates connections between artistic experimentation, technical skills, and an accessible language of photography. His strength lies in inspiring and motivating students in a playful and humorous way, while at the same time providing deeper knowledge, insight, and understanding.
