During my second visit to the Lithuanian capital Vilnius in 2007, I discovered by accident that the geographical center of the European continent lies nearby this city.

Surprised by this information, I discovered that there are at least ten of these geographical centers in Europe. This fact, together with the appointment of Vilnius as the cultural center ( cultural capital ) of Europe in 2009, led to the idea to photograph all these centers.

The remarkable thing about the locations of these centers is that they all lie in the former Eastern Bloc of Europe.

The trip led through Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.  All of them ( but Latvia ) have monuments that mark the site of “the” geographical center of Europe. The trip resulted in the exhibition “Miss Center of Europe” in Vilnius in 2009. A photobook is in preparation.
